The Experts Say Antivirus Investment is a Waste of Money

On one fine day, when I was on my regular web browsing reading regular themed stories, I came across one of the stories from where the headline says something about antivirus investment. That story caught my eye and I begin to immediately click on it and read what it has to say about this.

I was stunned at what the security experts think about investing on antivirus where most of them do not use antivirus simply because they find it useless. Why is it so? First of all, they are too expert on getting rid of rookie threats. Secondly, if the threat is going to be somewhat complicated, then the antivirus will not be able to cope as well.

What I say about this?

I agree totally what they said about not having antivirus and how useless is an antivirus when you really have some complicated threat. But come to think of it again, how many security experts do you have in this world? Not everyone knows how exactly Malware works and how to prevent it from infecting your computer.

[How to remove Virus]

I will still go for having an antivirus to protect me and my computer. Although I know where are the places that spread Malware venomously and how they can infect a computer but I am not taking any risk here. There might be another 1000 or even a million of threat that I don’t really know how they work.

If you are not too sure how a Malware infection works, please do not take the advice from the experts blindly. That is an advice from an expert to another expert. And I would like to remind here as well, if you are running a company, ensure all your employees have antivirus installed. You will not know what is the next stupid thing that they will do. Probably a worm infection which can easily spread around your LAN network?

If you are really one of them who don’t use an antivirus protection, feel free to let us know in the comment here and also how you survive until today. And to the non-experts, do remember that there is such thing called online virus scanner if one day you are out of antivirus protection for real.

Gosh! Without any antivirus? I don’t know of anyone who didn’t have antivirus in their systems. As you said, they’re experts, most of us are just ordinary computer users that do not have the knowledge on how computer viruses work. I think to have antivirus is better than not having one at all. I agree some antivirus programs might not be doing a great job, but at least there’s “something there” right? We have police officers all over the country and still there’re many criminals who committed various crime everyday. Does that mean the police officers are useless and we don’t need them anymore?

Well I think you think the same as me. For instance of someone who knows KUNG FU, he might say he don’t need police around because they are useless since by the time the police arrived, it is already the crime scene. But he should not assume everyone knows KUNG FU right? >.<

      • Alan says:

Depends how good he is at Kung Fu!

Even Kung Fu gods need to have police to help them with other things – missing peple, protect against bad people – Kung Fu VS bomb = dead :-/

        Wicked article m8 😉

In my opinion, it is an investment because of the benefits that are not available for free versions.
In my experience, free versions are still good to use if you have no budget for anti-virus.

  3. Really? It’s better to have something than none at all, right? The function of Antivirus software is very useful so it’s still an investment/necessity for me.

    • Alan Tay says:

I guess you are right Jian. It is really to have something better than none. I would not encourage people not to install antivirus.

I’m with free antivirus called Avast. Works perfect

  6. Becca says:

Useless because they are expert. Avira works fine with me..
It’s useless if all that using computer are experts like them. I wonder if they are really expert,
why they did not think that not all people are like them?

I am using NOD32 with Malwarebytes quite a good combination for me. Had no problems for now with viruses.

  11. Very true! Back then I have 2 premium antivirus software. At first it was okay because my PC is working fine. Until the day that there is one virus that infected my PC that even these antivirus software can’t remove. My PC crashed. So I bought a Mac instead.
