As we all know, Megaupload was shutdown by FBI some weeks back and the latest news is, the data might be deleted as well. Probably to most people, Megaupload is the heaven of piracy because you can find lots of movies, games, series and many more.
Deleting all those stuff is not really an issue but what about people who use the Megaupload service to backup their personal data? All the things might just gone and will not be able to retrieve even now since the site is already shutdown.
So is this the end?
I am not too sure whether is this coming to an end to all innocent Megaupload users. If you are in the dark where you have the problems of your data is going to be removed, you can just visit this site called megaretrieval.com.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), supported by Carpathia Hosting, today announced its plans to assess the scope of the issue facing Megaupload users who are at risk of losing their data. Carpathia has created this website, www.MegaRetrieval.com to assist users in contacting EFF. EFF will review the factual situations shared by users and, if possible, try to resolve their issues.
It is a site created by Carpathia Hosting to help out the victims of Megaupload but the success rate of retrieving the data still remained ‘finger-crossed’. A lesson to everyone here is even when you are about to drop everything to the cloud, always keep a backup copy on your local machine.

If Megaupload is guilty of piracy because users used their servers to share files illegally, then the city of New York is guilty of drugs dealing because people used their streets to do it. What the hell is going on with this government anyway???

The worst thing is, Megaupload is supposed to be based on Hong Kong I last heard. But just because their servers are located at US, they got into trouble.
And the worst thing is that the owner of Megaupload was sentenced 50 years in prison. That’s way longer than some criminals who committed murder. The Government must have revenged the fall of SOPA and PIPA.
It is really injustice to the genuine users of MegaUpload who had nothing to do the piracy material. If their data is also deleted without even giving them a chance to download / copy the same, then it is a denial of the principles of natural justice as per which no person shall be condemned unheard when some adverse action is to be taken against him. One can understand that the pirated material be removed, but what about genuine material?

Oh my! Fortunately I’m not using Megaupload for data backup. I don’t think we can entirely blame megaupload. This is just an unfortunate happening… So I’d agree to always secure a backup on your computer.
I am not a user of MegaUpload but I can feel the dismay about closing this website… I really don’t understand why there are lots of issues in this online world where all of us are enjoying the convenience the technology can bring.
